01 / THE BUSINESS CONTEXT
Give your management team a shared model to question, compare and revisit. Summit’s fictional approach connects the detail to a useful management conversation.
Owners, directors and management teams exploring forecasting as part of a wider business conversation.
Your questions, goals and a broad description of the challenge. Do not share documents or sensitive data on this website.
A demonstration of reporting, planning and advisory questions. No actual professional service is delivered.
02 THE AREAS WE CONNECT
Make volume, price or activity assumptions explicit. The planner uses a simplified percentage change to an invented baseline.
Separate recurring commitments from changes in activity. A real model would need more detail than this demonstration.
Keep money timing in view alongside the operating plan. This demonstration does not assess liquidity or solvency.
Record the incremental people-cost assumption and what it excludes. Our planner uses a fictional $90,000 annual cost per change in headcount.
Keep alternatives clearly labelled so a reader does not mistake a possibility for a commitment or expected result.
Use the budget as a stated reference point. Its usefulness depends on the quality and clarity of the assumptions.
A variance is a prompt for a question. Explain the comparison period and whether the difference is timing or a changed assumption.
Refresh assumptions as new information arrives, retaining enough context to understand what changed.
03 THE BUSINESS FORECAST PLANNER
Direct costs: $3,440,640. Operating costs including people adjustment: $1,330,000. People-cost change: $180,000. Working-capital change: $46,080. Cash impact is a simplified proxy, not a cash balance or forecast.
One illustrative 12-month period, in AUD. Baseline revenue $4.8 million. Revenue = baseline × (1 + growth). Gross profit = revenue × gross margin. Operating result = gross profit − entered operating costs − headcount change × $90,000. The headcount adjustment is incremental to the entered costs; negative changes reduce costs, but total costs cannot be negative. Cash impact proxy = operating result − $120,000 capital spend − 8% of the revenue change for working capital. A reduction in working capital is assumed to release cash.
This deliberately simplified model excludes taxes, interest, debt repayments, depreciation, collection delays, opening cash, seasonality and many real costs. It is not an actual profit forecast, cash balance, valuation or staffing recommendation.
Fictional assumptions only. This demonstration is not accounting, tax or financial advice.
